Description |
'Big 5' Game viewing experiences in Zimbabwe's and South Africa's premier National Parks 'Hwange' and 'Kruger'. Wander around the Great Zimbabwe National Monument and enjoy a game drive and walk with the Rhino's at Matobo National Park. Take the coastal road in Mozambique to relax on the sun kissed beaches before crossing into South Africa and the city of Johannesburg |
Day 1-2: Victoria Falls - Hwange National Park
We depart on our tour from the tourist-friendly town of Victoria Falls, named after Africa’s most scenic and powerful waterfall. A couple of days is needed before we leave this hub of activity to experience the numerous adventure options on offer from bungy jumping and gorge-swinging, to white water rafting or a leisurely sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. From Victoria Falls, we drive the short distance to Zimbabwe’s premier game-viewing area – Hwange National Park, where there is the option to go on an afternoon game drive to see the large herds of elephant that the park is so famous for and perhaps see rare species like African wild dogs or brown hyena.
Day 3-5: Bulawayo - Motobo - Great Zimbabwe Monument
Next is Zimbabwe’s second largest city, Bulawayo, where the nearby Matobo National Park shelters ancient rock paintings and the last significant population of the endangered white rhino in Zimbabwe; both of which we can visit on an optional foot safari. Further east we visit the historical city that the country takes its name from – Great Zimbabwe – where we camp in the foothills and explore the ancient pathways of this intriguing ruined city.
Day 6-11: Bandula area - Vilanculos - Inhambabe - Xia-Xia
Crossing from Zimbabwe to Mozambique, a couple of long days’ drives takes us to the spectacular Indian Ocean coast. Mozambique has come through a chequered past but now offers some wonderfully relaxing resorts where hammocks are strung among the palm trees and there are golden near-deserted beaches and warm azure waters alive with tropical marine-life. We travel down this dramatically scenic coast from Vilankulos to Xai Xai to take in the crashing waves, soft sand, stunning climate, and seafood to die-for until we cross the border with South Africa and we are back into Big Game country.
Day 12-14: Kruger National Park - Johannesburg
Our final two nights are spent in a comfortable bush lodge close to the edge of the world-famous Kruger National Park, from where we explore this magnificent wildlife haven on game drives. Home to the Big Five, and countless other species of animals and birds, this is South Africa’s premier park and an exciting safari is guaranteed. From Hazyview we head west to the cosmopolitan city of Johannesburg where the tour ends.
