Day 1 : International outbound flight
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Arusha.
Day 2 : Arusha
Land into Kilimanjaro International Airport this evening. Upon arrival you'll disembark crossing the tarmac. Once through customs you'll continue to the singular baggage carousel to collect your luggage and meet your transfer driver who will be waiting just outside the singular exit door. You'll continue to your accommodation in Arusha for the night.
Day 3 : Karatu
After breakfast this morning you will start your journey to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but very beautiful park. The flamingos on the lake are a classic East African sight, and the other wildlife here includes buffalo, zebra and if you're lucky, you may see a lion or leopard. You'll enjoy a game drive and picnic lunch here before driving up the Rift Valley escarpment to the Ngorongoro Highlands and the town of Karatu.
Day 4 : Karatu
Today you will drive from Karatu up to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater gaining your first views of this incredible natural wonder. You will then descend into the crater for your day of game viewing taking a picnic lunch to enjoy on the crater floor. There are currently some resident black rhinos that you may well be lucky enough to see along with large prides of lion, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and hyena.
Day 5 : Serengeti National Park
Today you will depart from the Ngorongoro Crater for the Serengeti National Park, passing Maasai bomas on the way, and driving through the Naabi gate into the park. You will enjoy a full day of wildlife viewing en route to your camp. The vast open plains of the Serengeti are world-renowned, broken up only by rocky kopjes and the Gol Mountains in the distance.
Day 6 : Serengeti National Park
Today is your first full day on safari and you will enjoy morning and afternoon game drives. The wildlife in the Serengeti is some of the best in East Africa so be sure to tell your guide if there is something you are particularly interested in seeing today and he'll explore the region with your wildlife goals in mind!
Day 7 : Serengeti National Park
Another day on safari in the Serengeti - you can spend your time exploring the very different regions of this vast park with your driver-guide according to what wildlife you've already seen on your safari so far. The birdlife in the Serengeti is also spectacular, with a variety of different bustards, colorful lilac-breasted rollers and superb starlings sure to impress.
Day 8 : Kigali
You will depart the Serengeti today by light aircraft for your journey to Kigali, Rwanda. On arrival into Kigali Airport you will be met by a private driver and transferred to your lodge in central Kigali for your evening stay.
Day 9 : Ruhengeri
Today you will travel from Kigali to Ruhengeri. You can enjoy a city tour in the morning - the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Museum is well worth visiting if you're interested in learning more about the history of the genocide and how the country has rebuilt itself since then. This is a beautiful drive through rolling hills and small farming villages and takes around two hours. You will be taken to your lodge in the mountains and the rest of the day can be spent relaxing at the hotel and enjoying the spectacular views of the Virunga Volcanoes.
Day 10 : Ruhengeri
Today is your gorilla tracking day! Set off early this morning for a briefing at the park HQ before you start the trek through the bamboo zone and into the forest. The trek will take anything between two and five hours to reach the gorillas and you then have a full hour to spend watching these fascinating primates. Enjoy the time taking photos and watching them interact - a truly unforgettable experience.
Day 11 : International return flight
After breakfast you will set off to track the golden monkeys in the Volcanoes National Park. This will be a completely different but just as rewarding experience to tracking the gorillas. You will track the monkeys with a guide through the forest of the Volcanoes National Park and you will spend an hour with them once you find them. The walk is generally easier than the trek to the gorillas, although this depends on the monkeys' movements. Enjoy watching the troops leap and play in the trees! After the golden monkeys you'll return to your lodge for lunch and a hot shower before slowly winding your way back to Kigali for your evening departure flight.
Day 12 : International return flight
Arrive home today to complete your journey.
