This itinerary offers clients with a one-of-a-kind experience of discovering South Luangwa by staying close to nature for two nights of bush camping, followed by wildlife drives and a lodge stay for the final two nights to enjoy all the comforts. |
Day 1 : International outbound flight
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Lusaka Airport.
Day 2 : South Luangwa National Park
Arrive in Lusaka and connect onto a light aircraft flight to Mfuwe. On arrival in Mfuwe transfer through the South Luangwa Park to your lodge. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park.
Day 3 : South Luangwa National Park
A day of safari activities from Chinzombo. You will be able to go out on walking safaris or game drives with your guide, as well as a night drive to spot some of the nocturnal wildlife of the Luangwa.
Day 4 : South Luangwa National Park
Today you will take a safari drive across to Mchenja Bushcamp. The camp overlooks the Luangwa River and is shaded by ebony trees. Relax at camp before going on an afternoon/evening safari activity.
Day 5 : South Luangwa National Park
Today you will participate in morning and afternoon game viewing activities. The South Luangwa National Park is regarded as one of the finest safari destinations in Africa, and the game is phenomenally varied.
Day 6 : Lower Zambezi National Park
You will leave the South Luangwa today and catch your onward flight to the Lower Zambezi. You will be met at the airstrip and driven to camp. Here you will be able to relax before heading out to explore on your evening game activity. The sunsets in the Lower Zambezi are fantastic so make sure you make the most of these.
Day 7 : Lower Zambezi National Park
A full day of game viewing activities around Sausage Tree. You will be taken out on the morning, afternoon and evening activities of your choice. Sausage Tree prides itself on tailoring activities to your needs. You may like to take a drive in the beautiful woodland areas of the Lower Zambezi. This is home to elephant, leopard, giraffe and more.
Day 8 : Lower Zambezi National Park
A full day to enjoy the fabulous game viewing on offer at Sausage Tree Camp. The focus here is on water-based activities and there is some great game-viewing to be done on boat safaris. The bird-life is prolific at this time of year and you will also see herds of elephant and pods of hippo that live in Zambezi. Each day you are also likely to go on an evening game drive.
Day 9 : Lower Zambezi National Park
Final day on safari, enjoying activities from Sausage Tree Camp.
Day 10 : International return flight
You will leave camp today and fly back to Lusaka.
Day 11 : International return flight
Arrive home today to complete your journey.
Day 1: Flight to Mfuwe in South Luangwa NP
You will fly to Lusaka, Zambia's capital, and arrive at Lusaka International Airport (LUN). Our representative will greet you upon arrival and assist you in checking in for your flight to Mfuwe, which is an hour flight from Lusaka. A guide from Robin Pope Safaris will meet you at the Mfuwe airport and transfer you to the camp.
Ideally, you would spend the night at a camp not too far off so that you can get up at sunrise and then take a morning walk as a morning activity to the first bush camp. Situated in a secluded area of the Nsefu sector the camp is simple and “bush”. Arriving in time for a leisurely lunch followed by a siesta and an afternoon walk will follow tea and then back to camp for sundowners and dinner around the campfire.
Day 2: Luangwa Bush Camp
The day is spent walking in the game-rich area of the Luangwa riverine habitat, with ebony groves, many lagoons and of course the Luangwa River itself. During your morning walk, the camp will be moved to a second site and lunch will be waiting for you on arrival, alternatively, you and your guide may decide to have a picnic lunch en route. This is a very flexible day and your guide will discuss options to suit you and any other guests.
Day 3: Transfer to Mfuwe Lodge ,South Luangwa NP
After a leisurely breakfast, you will leave camp and walk to your next lodge, pausing for tea and cake along the way and arriving at Mfuwe Lodge in time for lunch.
After lunch, you will have free time to relax before your afternoon/evening game drive. Tea/coffee will be served before the afternoon Safari excursion, which will begin with an afternoon game drive safari and end with a night safari in search of nocturnal species after sundown. Then you'll be back to the lodge practically in time for supper, and you'll have some free time before bedtime.
Day 4: Explore South Luangwa National Park
Breakfast will be served before departing for a morning game drive; you will stop for tea at some point during your game drive and return to the lodge for brunch, leisure time, and then tea/coffee will be served before the afternoon Safari activity, which will begin with an afternoon game drive safari and end with a night safari in search of nocturnal species after sundown. Then you'll be back to the lodge practically in time for dinner, and you'll have some free time before bedtime.
Day 5: Departure
Breakfast is served in the morning, and the rest of the day is dependent on your flight itinerary to Lusaka for your onward connection. In time for your flight, a guide from Mfuwe Lodge will transport you to Mfuwe Airport.
