Set out from St. Petersburg with your local Travel Director and expert in all things Russian, on an exploration of the city's iconic architecture—including the onion-domed Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood. After free time to explore picturesque Pushkin and the site of Rasputin's infamous demise, carve through the Baltic waves on a high-speed hydrofoil to the lavish grounds of Peter the Great's Petrodvorets Gardens. A speedy Sapspan train transplants you to Moscow in style, and begins a unique expert led exploration of the city—taking in the Kremlin, Red Square and Lenin's Mausoleum. |
Day 1 : International outbound flight
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Beijing.
Day 2 : Beijing
On arrival in the Chinese capital this morning you are met by your private driver and guide who will take you to your hotel accommodation in the heart of the city. The rest of your day is at leisure to explore under your own steam.
Day 3 : Beijing
Enjoy a full day excursion out to the Great Wall at Jinshanling today with your private driver and guide. You spend the day exploring here with your private guide before returning to the city by car in the late afternoon. Your evening is at leisure.
Day 4 : Beijing
Take a full day to explore the city under your own steam today. We will give you some suggestions for your time and would highly recommend exploring the Temple of Heaven early in the morning to catch some of Beijing's locals practicing their traditional morning exercises.
Day 5 : Beijing
An early morning transfer today sees you boarding your first train to Mongolia. Your guide will be on hand to help you settle into your compartment before you set off.
Day 6 : Khustaii Nuruu National Park
Arriving into Mongolia this afternoon you are met by your private driver and guide and head out of the city into the countryside to the Khustai Nuruu National Park, home to the rare Takhii Horse Species. After some time to settle into your first ger tent you travel out into the park with your driver and guide for a chance to spot these beautiful creatures. Overnight in your ger with the evening at leisure.
Day 7 : Ulaan Baatar
Your morning is at leisure in the park with your guide before you head back to Ulaan Bataar via the haunting monastery ruins at Manzushir Khiid. You spend some time here with your guide before continuing on to Ulaan Bataar. This evening enjoy a traditional cultural performance.
Day 8 : Ulaan Baatar
Take a morning tour of the city today including a visit to the city's famous Gandan Monastery, home to a spectacular 26 metre high statue of Buddha. This afternoon you transfer on to the station with your guide who will help you to board your onward train to Irkutsk.
Day 9 : Listvyanka Village
Arriving into Russia's most famous Siberian city today you are met by your driver and guide who will take you down to Listvyanka, a small town on the shores of Lake Baikal. The rest of your day is at leisure to allow you some time to relax after the train journey.
Day 10 : Listvyanka Village
Today is at leisure in Listvyanka to allow you some time to explore under your own steam.
Day 11 : Irkutsk
Transfer back to Irkutsk today by car in time to meet your afternoon train on to Moscow.
Day 12 : Irkutsk
A day spent aboard the train, leaving the forested landscapes of deepest Siberia behind and entering the grassy plains that lead towards the Urals.
Day 13 : Irkutsk
Today is the crossing into Europe - the train forges a passage through the Ural Mountains, before emerging into the agricultural lands and gentle countryside of the West.
Day 14 : Moscow
Arriving into Moscow this afternoon you are met by your private driver and guide who will take you to your hotel accommodation at the heart of the city. The rest of your evening is at leisure.
Day 15 : Moscow
This morning you take a walking tour of the beautiful Kremlin Complex, including a visit to the Armoury, home to a small but exquisite collection of Faberge Eggs. The rest of your day is at leisure in the city to allow you some time to explore under your own steam. We will give you some some suggestions for your time.
Day 16 : International return flight
Your morning is at leisure before you meet with your private driver and guide and transfer on to the airport. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
Day 1: Welcome to St. Petersburg
Airport transfers depart from St. Petersburg airport at 14:30 and 17:00.Meet your Travel Director and travel companions at 19:00 for a friendly Welcome Dinner served with wine at a local restaurant.
Day 2: St.Petersburg Sightseeing
Morning sightseeing with your Local Expert includes views of St. Isaac's Cathedral, the fortress of St. Peter and Paul and Decembrists' Square. Travel along Nevsky Prospekt for views of the great Cathedral of Kazan and the iconic, onion-domed Church of Our Saviour on Spilled Blood. Join a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience and visit a local ceramist workshop supporting vulnerable youth. The rest of the day is yours to explore. Perhaps join an Optional Experience and visit the beautiful Catherine Palace in the small town of Tsarskoe Selo, now called Pushkin? Day 3: Petrodvorets by Hydrofoil Relaxed Start
Cruise by hydrofoil along the Baltic shore to Peter the Great’s summer residence of Petrodvorets. For over 200 years it was used for official ceremonies, lavish feasts and formal receptions. Explore the perfectly manicured gardens and see the cascading fountains. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the world-famous Alexandrinsky Theatre with a member of the production team. Visit the royal box and see an exhibition of authentic costumes. Later you are at leisure, or perhaps visit the former residence of the Yusupov family and the scene of Rasputin's murder?
Day 4: The Hermitage Museum Relaxed Start
Located in the Winter Palace, the Hermitage is one of the world’s greatest museums. Marvel at its fabulous collection of paintings and ornaments, ranging from Egyptian carvings to impressionist masterpieces.The rest of the day is at your leisure to explore, shop or relax.
Day 5: High-Speed Sapsan Train to Moscow Relaxed Start
Enjoy a relaxed start in the morning, or perhaps visit the former residence of the Yusupov family and the scene of Rasputin's murder?Board your high-speed Sapsan train and relax in modern luxury and comfort as you swoop to Moscow in just a few hours.On arrival in this fascinating city, you are transferred to your hotel for a leisurely three-night stay. Famous for its unique history and colourful architecture, explore Moscow’s enchanting city centre and get lost in its captivating Modern art scene. For those wanting to take a stroll, why not promenade through the delights of Gorky Park—designed in the 1920s by famed architect Konstantin Melnikov, and always abuzz with art exhibitions.
Day 6: Moscow, a Russian Revelation Relaxed Start
Begin your exploration of the Russian capital with a Local Expert. Start in Red Square, lined by Moscow's landmark buildings. At one end rises the onion-shaped domes of St. Basil's Cathedral, in front of the Kremlin stands Lenin's Mausoleum, while on the opposite side, the grand GUM department store offers a variety of glamorous goods. Explore Moscow with Insight Choice. Choose to visit an ornate metro station. Alternatively, join your Local Expert for a stroll through the popular Zaryadye Park and enjoy great views of your surroundings.
Day 7: Moscow and The Kremlin Relaxed Start
In the morning, you are at leisure to relax or explore the Russian capital as you wish. Perhaps visit the Borodino Panorama Exhibition or take an Optional Experience to Zagorsk, the renowned centre of ancient Russian art and architectureIn the afternoon, walk within the walls of the Kremlin Fortress to visit one of the cathedrals. Learn more about Russia’s famous Tsars, the history of the Fortress and how its role has changed over the years.Later, enjoy delicious food, great wine and wonderful company as you toast to your travels during your Celebration Dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 8: Farewell Moscow
Departure transfers will arrive at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport at 05:00, 08:00 and 11:00 and at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport at 05:00, 10:00 and 13:00.
