Description |
Whether it's laying out on the sun-kissed Copacabana Beach or ascending the top of Corcovado Mountain to see Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro dazzles visitors with one iconic site after another. Spend 4 nights exploring this fascinating city at your own pace! You don't have to visit Rio during its annual Carnaval to experience the city. The sounds of samba and bossa nova permeate the air all year, while its laidback beach atmosphere make this one of the most enjoyable cities in the world. Helpful links for travel to Brazil: |
Day 1 Welcome to Rio de Janeiro!
Say "ola" to Rio! Arrive at Galeao International Airport then enjoy a transfer to your accommodation. Ease your way into this sprawling city with a stroll through the historic center filled with architectural gems. The Theatro Municipal, built in 1909, was modeled after the Opera Garnier in Paris!
Day 2 Rio de Janeiro
Today you will embark on a full-day tour of Corcovado and Sugarloaf Mountains! Both of these imposing mountains make up the iconic skyline of Rio, and you will enjoy unparalleled views from the summits. On this tour, you will also visit downtown Rio's architectural gems.
Day 3 Rio de Janeiro
Start the day with a stroll around the Santa Teresa neighborhood located on top of Santa Teresa hill. Now known as the artistic heart of Rio, Santa Teresa's narrow cobbled streets were once home to the city's wealthy elite. Before leaving, don't miss Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón's mosaic-covered steps made from colorful ceramic tiles that connect the Lapa neighborhood with Santa Teresa. Later, take a cable car up to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain. Watch the sun go down over the city, with Corcovado mountain and Christ the Redeemer off to the west, and Copacabana Beach to the south.
Day 4 Rio de Janeiro
Rio is perhaps most famous for its beach life, and two beaches in particular: Copacabana and Ipanema. Rio residents (known as cariocas) can be seen playing soccer, sunbathing, and swimming all along the 2.5-mile stretch of Copacabana Beach. Among its trademarks is the Atlântica Avenue boardwalk, with mosaic waves of stones designed by landscape architect Burle Marx. More upscale than Copacabana, the area around Ipanema Beach is considered the “little Paris” of Rio for its avant-garde galleries, bookstores and movie theaters.
Day 5 Depart Brazil
Your Rio adventure comes to an end today. At the appropriate time, transfer back to the airport for your flight home. Take one last look at the fascinating city below from the plane!
