Itinerary: Highlights of Cambodia With Battambang

Days 1-2: PHNOM PENH

Accommodation: The Frangipani Royal Palace Hotel and Spa

On arrival in Phnom Penh, transfer to your hotel. Get to know your traveling companions and tour leader at welcome drinks and a tour briefing on the evening you arrive. Phnom Penh offers up an array of adventures. Discover Phnom Penh's rich French colonial past from the unique front-seat perspective of a traditional cyclo ride and explore its majestic Royal character at the Royal Palace and the ornate Silver Pagoda before visiting the National Museum. Reflect on the Khmer Rouge legacy at Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields and gain fascinating insights into Cambodia's confronting past. Visit the colorful Central Market, then enjoy a drink and appetisers aboard a relaxing sunset cruise on the Mekong River.

Day 3: KAMPONG THOM

Accommodation: Sambor Village Hotel

Gaze out at the colorful Cambodian countryside as you travel north and see traditional rural scenes of farmers driving oxen through paddy fields. Along the way, try the fresh fruit from local market sellers, or brave the local delicacy at Skuon - fried spiders. Discover a local silk farm and see traditional methods of weaving before enjoying a delicious lunch. Explore the ancient ruins of Sambour Prei Kuk, dating back to pre-Angkorian times.

Days 4-6: TONLE SAP LAKE & SIEM REAP

Accommodation: Tara Angkor Hotel

Uncover a remote section of Tonle Sap Lake on a remarkable boat trip before reaching Siem Reap, your base for exploring the incredible temples of Angkor. Rise before dawn to witness the iconic spires of Angkor Wat emerge from the surrounding darkness as the sky turns pink above - an enduring memory. Enjoy a local breakfast in an Angkor cafe and head to Angkor Thom and Bayon by tuk-tuk. Receive a water blessing from a Buddhist monk at the peaceful Tep Pranam Pagoda, and wander amongst the ruins of the atmospheric tree-covered Ta Prohm. The next day, venture to remote Boeng Mealea and Banteay Srei. Stop at a local market at Dom Deak, and visit a landmine museum and a village specializing in making palm sugar and wine. Spend the evening sharing experiences with fellow group members at a group dinner.

Days 7-10: BATTAMBANG & SIEM REAP

Accommodation: Hotel: Stung Sangke Hotel

A delightful drive to Battambang brings you to a rice paper village and a chance to visit Ek Phnom, built in the 11th century and mostly reduced to ruins today. In Battambang, see the charming French-colonial architecture and visit a pagoda where you may have an opportunity to chat with the monks. The next day, head to Phnom Sampow, stopping en route at a rural winery to sample some Cambodian wine. Then, visit Banan temple and take a fun ride on the norry or bamboo train before visiting an ancient house. Return to Siem Reap by road on day 9, stopping to visit Artisans d'Angkor silk farm. On your last day, enjoy free time until your departure transfer.

Day 1 Phnom Penh

Welcome to Phnom Penh - the capital of Cambodia, where the mighty Mekong meets the Tonle Sap and Bassac rivers. You’ll be met and privately transferred to Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 Phnom Penh

This morning, set off to discover the city’s charm. Start at The National Museum, a graceful terracotta building. Next, visit the Royal Palace, the official residence of King Sihamoni. Your journey will be continued at Phnom Penh Central Market before going back to the hotel. In the afternoon, explore a local market for street food, an essential part of the city's daily life and culture. Your last stop will be a restaurant where you have a taste of true Khmer cuisine.

Day 3 Phnom Penh

Embark on a boat to visit Koh Dach, a peaceful island lying in the Mekong River. Upon arrival, take a bike ride to discover a “real Cambodia” with rural life, green farms, charming pagodas, and wooden houses. On this sleepy island, the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh feel hundreds of years away. Enjoy lunch at a traditional stilt house. Relax in the blissful atmosphere of the island before riding back to the pier.

Day 4 Kampong Chhnang

Drive northwest of Phnom Penh Battambang. Stop along the way, at the riverside village of goldsmiths, Oudong, the floating villages in Kampong Chhnang, and Pursat. During your visits, you’ll have a chance to learn about Cambodian craftsmanship, life, and natural landscapes in the villages. Lunch at a local restaurant. Arriving at Battambang Resort, your base for the next three nights. Enjoy a refreshing dive into the saltwater pool or spend the time at your own leisure.

Day 5 Battambang

Today, experience the hidden town of Battambang by bike. Ride through rice paddies, local workshops, colonial houses, and pagodas. Here, get closer to the local life and the village’s daily activities such as knife making and traditional ‘prahok’ making. This afternoon, enjoy a brilliant circus art performance at Phare Ponleu Selpak, or the ‘Brightness of Art’ school.

Day 6 Siem Reap

Try Battambang’s unique transportation: the bamboo train. Step up the train, sit on a mat that serves as a seat, and enjoy an experience that takes you nowhere but the place you’ve never experienced. Later, go to a homestay partake in a cooking class. Visit a local market to learn about Khmer exotic spices and vegetables. Returning to learn to cook three traditional Cambodian dishes before sampling the delicious plates that you’ve created.

Day 7 Angkor Wat

For your next part, head to Siem Reap, the star of this Cambodia adventure. On the way, take a boat ride on the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve, and spot the rare waterbird at the bird sanctuary of Prek Toal. After lunch, visit a floating village and observe a unique way of life and see how the villagers do farming on the water. Check-in at the hotel. Relax at leisure after the drive.

Day 8 Angkor Wat

Sit in a tuk-tuk to Angkor Thom, the former capital of the Khmer Empire. See Bayon Temple with its four giant stone faces, the Baphuon - a mountain temple built Terrace of Elephant and its impressive 350-meter wall. See, too, the 12th century-year-old Terrace of Leper King which is adorned with spectacular Asara sculptures. After lunch, visit the world-famous Angkor Wat. Finish your temple visit at Ta Prohm.

Day 9 Angkor Wat

This morning, take in a fun activity: flying through the rainforest in a zipline adventure. Your children will love sliding fast through the air and enjoy the thrill and excitement of every ride. In the afternoon, visit Satcha, the first handicraft incubation center that aims to uplift Cambodian craftsmanship. They combine contemporary designs inspired by Khmer rich culture with traditional know-how to create meaningful, eco-friendly, and high-quality handcrafted products.

Day 10 Siem Reap

A half-day exploration of the local life. Start by making traditional rice noodles for your breakfast. Then, continue to help with a delicious Cambodian snack - bamboo sticky rice, and coconut picking. Your last stop is at a family who makes palm leaf handicrafts as a source of income. You can learn to make a craft on your own and bring it home as a special gift from Cambodia.
