Description

Get ready to live like a local on this off-season trip to the hilltop towns and vineyards of the Amalfi Coast. Explore the small towns and trails of this beautiful countryside while experiencing local customs and once-in-a-lifetime moments. Explore the ruins of Pompeii in the morning, hike the coastline of the Med by afternoon, and tuck into bed at your converted 17th-century monastery homebase at sundown. Since this trip takes place in the off season when it's just a bit cooler out, there are fewer people around the Amalfi Coast—meaning you'll have that much more paradise all to yourself.

Rediscover the luxuries of Naples, Capri and the Amalfi Coast with an authentic look at la dolce vita... inviting you to experience life in southern Italy and Campania as a local, with stays at accommodations in the Leading Hotels in the World.

Itinerary: Local Living Italy—Amalfi Coast Winter

Day 1 Naples

Arrive at any time. There is a brief orientation walk after an optional group dinner.

Welcome to Naples, home to the best pizza of the world. Join your Chief Experience Officer (CEO) after the welcome meeting for an optional group dinner to eat the dish Naples is famous for—pizza! Your CEO will lead you on a brief orientation walk after dinner.

If you booked the Naples Food Tour it does not include extra time in Naples and we highly recommend booking pre-trip accommodation. Please speak to a G Adventures representative about booking accommodations in Naples before Day 1 of this itinerary. Hotel check-in time is approximately 3:00pm. Please make every effort to arrive in time for tonight's important Welcome Meeting. If you are delayed and will arrive late, please inform the hotel or us directly -- contact numbers are provided on the Tour Details page. Your Chief Experience Officer (CEO) will then leave you a message at the front desk informing you of where and when to meet up.

Day 2 Naples/Furore

Start the day with an orientation tour of Naples with your CEO. Afterwards, travel to Pompeii to enjoy a guided tour of the partially buried ruins before transferring to a beautiful agriturismo nestled in the hills above the Amalfi Coast. Enjoy the first of many delicious home cooked Italian dinners and one of three cooking demonstrations.

After you've had time to settle into your room, the hosts will give you a tour of the property and tell you a bit about themselves and the agriturismo's history.

Our accommodation is an agriturismo just outside of Furore. For the duration of our trip we stay at the same agriturismo. Located in a tiny village just outside of Furore, it was formerly a 16th century monastery, and the staff are incredibly friendly and hospitable. The property is surrounded by colourful gardens, open terraces, and endless staircases leading out to lemon groves and grapevines.

Day 3 Furore

Visit the seaside town of Sorrento and enjoy an orientation walk before free time.

Day 4 Furore

Set out on the famous "Path of the Gods" hike, weather and conditions permitting.

Today's hike is challenging, so if you feel like seeing the sights instead, opt to visit the Basilica di Sant'Antonino, Marina Grande, or Correale Museum.

Note that this hike may take place on another day of the tour, weather depending. We will try to do this hike on the first day that has good weather conditions.

Day 5 Furore

Enjoy a free time to enjoy the property and its surroundings. Opt to indulge in a mozzarella-making and/or a limoncello making demonstration. In the evening, learn how to make pizza the Italian way.

Day 6 Furore

Visit Amalfi and Ravello with free time to explore before returning to the agriturismo.

Free day to explore the beautiful coast starting in Ravello and it's breathtaking panoramic views. Make your way down to Amalfi either by foot or hop on a local bus and enjoy the bustle of the town. Return to the agriturismo with your appetite ready for a delicious dinner.

Day 7 Furore/Naples

Morning transfer to the Naples train station. Depart in the early afternoon.

If you opt to stay at the agriturismo in Furore until checkout time at 11am, we will gladly help you to arrange any onward transport at your own cost.

Upon arrival in Naples, consider booking post-tour accommodation with us if you wish to extend your stay. Please speak to a G Adventures representative about booking accommodations in Naples after your tour ends.

Day 2 Neapolitan Delights

Culturally rich with historic treasures that date back millennia to the days of the Greeks and Romans, Naples invites discovery at every turn. Begin the day with a guided visit to the Naples Archaeological Museum, whose exhibits include ancient mosaics found under the ashes of Mt. Vesuvius. Then a late-morning walking tour leads you through the "Spaccanapoli" – the narrow, "split" backstreets that cut Naples in two – where the character of the Old Town comes alive in alleyways lined with artisan workshops, cafés, squares, ancient churches, merchants' shops and balconied apartments where neighbors greet passersby. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant renowned for its pizza – a dish which is said to have been invented in Naples. The rest of the day is free to explore as you wish, with many restaurants conveniently located steps from your hotel, for dinner as you please.

Day 3 The island of Ischia

Board a high-speed ferry bound for the island of Ischia across the Gulf of Naples today, where a locally guided sightseeing tour includes a visit to the medieval Aragonese Castle. Dating back to 474 BC, the castle sits atop a rocky island peninsula and reigns over the sea in a mix of ancient watchtowers, churches and monasteries steeped in romance and regal lore. Next, enjoy a lovely coastal drive en route to a farmhouse lunch at a local agriturismo near Forio. Continue on to the picturesque fishing village of Sant'Angelo for some free time to explore as you wish. From Forio, head back via high-speed ferry to Naples; spend the remainder of the day and evening just as you please in Napoli.

A city of some 4,000+ inhabitants, well-preserved Herculaneum was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for providing "an authentic picture of society and daily life at a specific moment in the past that is without parallel anywhere in the world." See multi-storied homes, complete with doors, staircases and furnishings, vivid frescoes and mosaics, as you explore the archaeological site with an expert guide. Drive back to Naples, viewing iconic piazzas and historic buildings representing the former Kingdom of Naples. Ride a high-speed ferry to the island of Capri.
