1. Taj Mahal
An iconic structure and symbol of India’s history, the Taj Mahal acts as a tomb to the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is admired for its white marble and stunning architecture.
2. The Red Fort
Named after its red sandstone walls, the Red Fort was the main residence of the Mughal Emperors. The Red Fort is located in Delhi and includes palaces, entertainment halls, balconies, baths, indoor canals, gardens and mosques.
3. Hawa Mahal
Located in Jaipur, Hawa Mahal is a palace made of red and pink sandstone. It’s famous for its architecture that allows for free circulation within the structure.
4. Golden Temple
A gurdwara or a religious building for Sikhs, the Golden Temple is famous for and named after its golden exterior. This destination attracts many religious visitors.
5. Humayun’s Tomb
The tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun, Humayun’s Tomb is located in Delhi. It is one of the most preserved Mughal monuments and resembles more of a luxurious palace than a tomb.
6. The Amber Fort
A mix of Hindu and Muslim designs, the Amber Fort is a monument for the days of Rajput rule in Rajasthan. Inside travelers can explore courtyards, temples, gardens and terraces.
7. Mahabodhi Temple
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and Budhist temple, Mahabodhi Temple is said to be the location where the Buddha attained enlightenment. This temple is one of the oldest in India and inside travelers will find a yellow sandstone statue of the Buddha.
8. Lake Palace
A former summer palace of the royal dynasty of Mewar, the Lake Palace is now a hotel. This landmark appears to be located literally in the middle of water, hence the name, and has hosted many prominent poets, writers as well as royalty.
9. Mysore Palace
The former residence of the Wadiyar dynasty, Mysore Palace is one of largest palaces in all of India. Here travelers can explore museums, temples and gardens all with rich historical value.
10. Ellora Caves
One of the largest rock-cut monastery-temple caves in the world, Ellora Caves features Hindu, Buddhist and Jain monuments. It is both an architecturally beautiful destination and a symbol of tolerance among differing beliefs.

11. Qutub Minar
Part of the Qutub complex, Qutub Minar is known as the “victory tower”. It is one of the tallest mosque towers in India and showcases Islamic structure.
12. Akshardham Swaminarayan
A Hindu house of worship, the Akshardham Swaminarayan showcases Hindu art and architecture. Travelers can explore Hindu exhibits, gardens and courtyards.
13. Gwalior Fort
A hill fort dating back as early as the 6th century, Gwalior Fort is considered one of the most impenetrable forts in all of India. This landmark has stunning architecture and rich history.
14. Bara Imambara
Home to a maze of nearly a thousand interconnected passageways, Bara Imambara was built at part of a famine relief program. It is considered to be the largest arched hall in the world and includes mosques, courtyards and gateways.
15. India Gate
A war memorial, the India Gate honors soldiers of the British Indian Army that died during WWI. The names of some of these soldiers are inscribed on the gate.
16. Gateway of India
A monument commemorating the visit of King-Emperor George V and Queen-Empress Mary. Now this structure acts as a ceremonial entrance for important colonial personnel.
17. Hampi Monuments
An ancient village, Hampi Monuments is home to many now ruined temples. Here travelers can find monolithic sculptures and monuments in what once was a Hindu kingdom.
18. Meenakshi Amman Temple
Dedicated to the goddess, Meenakshi Amman, Meenakshi Amman Temple is home to mythological and historical significance.
19. Jama Masjid
One of the largest mosques in India, Jama Masjid is made of red sandstone and white marble. It serves as a reminder of the Mughal religious fervour.
20. The Jantar Mantar
Nineteen architectural astronomical instruments, the Jantar Mantar has the world's largest stone sundial. This is a great destination for travelers who love astronomy.

21. Thiksey Monastery
A Budhist landmark, Thiksey Monastery is known for both its architecture and pilgrimage activities. Inside travelers will find multiple shrines and an iconic statue of the Buddha.
22. Agra Fort

25. Govind Devji Temple
Most popular during the festival of Janmashtami (birthday of Lord Krishna), Govind Devji Temple is associated with an interesting legend. The deity of Govind Dev Ji appeared in the dreams to Raja Sawai Jai Singh which led to the building of the temple.
