What You Should Know Before Going On A Wales Tour

Wales is a very bucolic and pleasant country to visit, dotted with castles, sheep, and beautiful countryside. It’s the perfect destination for a relaxing trip, popular amongst older travelers looking for something that is not too physically challenging. A majority of tours in Wales cater to this demographic.

Wales is also a hidden secret for anglophiles looking to explore deeper into Britain’s extensive and unique history.

Because Wales is so small, most tours in Wales will often cover very similar sights - but it’s important to note that tours focusing just on Wales are rare. More often you’ll see England tours that include Cardiff or other places of interest in Wales that are within close proximity to England. These tours typically focus more on England than Wales.

Hiking Tours in Wales

There are many sides to Wales, and one of them is extremely adventurous! Hiking and mountaineering are very popular activities in Wales, especially around Snowdonia National Park.

While you can go on your own, it’s advisable to visit with a guide as some paths can be quite dangerous if you’re not used to the weather and terrain.

What’s in a Welsh Breakfast?

When you visit Wales, there is a good chance you’ll spend at least a couple nights in guest houses where you’ll be treated to a classic Welsh breakfast. Much like a Scottish or English breakfast, the offering is hearty and full of protein; a great start to a busy day of touring!

The typical inclusions in a Welsh breakfast are: fried eggs, sausage and bacon, cooked tomatoes & mushrooms, and something called Laverbread.

Commonly spread on toast or crackers, Laverbread could be considered the vegemite of Wales. It has a very strong smell and flavor - so beware! Laverbread is essentially nothing more than heavily pureed seaweed, extremely healthy and full of vitamins and minerals. This delicacy is thoroughly enjoyed by the Welsh people, and is something you won’t find anywhere else.
