At Aardvark, you’ll find that we don’t sell any camps or lodges that we haven’t visited ourselves and that after more than 16 years in the business, we’re still passionate about creating customized safaris that will introduce you to the Africa we know and love.

From a one room, two man enterprise, we now have four small offices in the US and UK that are well stocked with smart, dedicated, patient safari consultants who know their stuff. When we’re not riding through the Okavango Delta, hopping on helicopters in Zambia, climbing sand dunes in Namibia, on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, exploring Kenya’s wildlife with our own children, self-driving in South Africa or sneaking photo opportunities with gorillas, we’re arranging the best customized safaris in the business.

Whether you’re a safari first timer or a veteran, it’s great to know you’re in safe hands. Read on to find out that you won’t pay more for our expertise than if you booked the safari yourself, and that we work hard to give back to the animals and people that make Africa so special. We’re proud to be a small, dynamic company. We’ve stayed close to our roots and we think you’ll find that makes all the difference.

Why Aardvark

At Aardvark Safaris, we know that no two clients are alike, that bigger isn’t better and tailor-made is best. From out and out adventure to the lap of luxury, we bring your dreams to life using our expertise to create unforgettable journeys. Hidden gems, extraordinary access, out of the way places — that’s the Aardvark way. That’s Africa, your way.

A safari is a once in a lifetime experience and we want your safari to be perfect…for you. We won’t suggest a camp or lodge to you until we get to know your wishes and requirements. And we won’t recommend it unless one of our specialists has been there, has walked with the guides, eaten the food and slept in the beds.

We travel every few months to see new properties and to re-visit old favorites. It is only by spending time on the ground that we can be sure we are offering you the best advice.

Where possible, we will use small, owner run camps and lodges that are ideally located so you can enjoy the bush off the beaten track. We also understand that a guide can make or break your trip. The small camps we use employ better guides with more experience, charisma and unmatched local knowledge.

Our approach combines decades of experience with an exceptional service. We’ll be with you every step of the way, from designing your itinerary to advising you what to pack to monitoring your progress as you travel. More than 70% of our clients come from repeat business or word of mouth and we strive to exceed expectations, every time.

We’ll get you away from the crowds during the wildebeest migration, introduce you to the gorilla vets in Rwanda, find you Botswana’s top specialist guides, create unscripted and meaningful cultural exchanges in townships, villages, schools and clinics, get you into the top restaurants in Cape Town and ensure you have the finest pilot for your Namibian flying safari.

On your return, we want to hear about your trip and find that client feedback (both good and occasionally bad) helps keep us abreast of changes on the ground.

We’re passionate about safaris and know that travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer. Whether you are a single traveler, couple, multi-generational family or a group, we can help you plan an itinerary with insider access and experiences that surprise and delight to ensure that you enjoy the real Africa with absolute confidence and security.

Accommodation

,SIRIKOI Surrounded by a forest of mature fever trees, Sirikoi looks out across a busy waterhole in the Lewa Conservancy in northern Kenya. The waterhole is fed directly from Mount Kenya via local springs. Enjoy watching the wealth of wildlife that frequents the waterhole and its surrounding swamp vegetation, all from the cool comfort of shaded Sirikoi. Accommodation & Facilities Four spacious, elegantly designed tents are equipped with en-suite facilities, including a bath, shower and flushing toilet. An open fire creates a warm, cozy atmosphere on cooler evenings. A private cottage is also available at Sirikoi comprising two double bedrooms and kitchen, making it the perfect base if you are traveling with friends or family. Shared areas at the camp include a tastefully furnished lounge and huge outside dining space. Beautiful African fabrics and works of art produced by local artisans add color and character to the rooms and communal areas. Wildlife & Activities Sirikoi is the ideal place from which to explore the Lewa Conservancy on day and night game drives in 4x4s. You can also experience the bush from a new perspective on a guided walking safari and bush picnic. The Lewa Conservancy supports huge concentrations of black and white rhino, lion, buffalo and elephant. When you are not on game drives try horse riding, bi-plane flights, and fishing trips to Mount Kenya. If you are feeling adventurous, sleep out under the stars on a fly camping trip. MARA PLAINS Mara Plains is situated in the beautiful Olare Motorogi Conservancy bordering Kenya’s Masai Mara. Positioned alongside the Ntiakatek River, the camp is surrounded by expansive grassy plains and cool riverine forest, giving you the chance of an unparalleled game viewing experience. Accommodation & Facilities Intimate Mara Plains comprises just seven private canvas tents on raised wooden decks overlooking the plains or river. The tents provide all creature comforts, including an adjoining bathroom with shower, flushing toilet and free-standing copper bath. The focal point of the camp is the interconnected open-air communal tent ‘pod’ containing two lounge areas, one with a library and study space. Meals can be enjoyed in the great outdoors on wooden decks or in the shared dining tent in which the large farmhouse table is given a touch of luxury by a grand chandelier. Wildlife & Activities Mara Plains camp gives you unrivalled access to the full Masai Mara experience with game viewing taking place in custom 4×4 vehicles. Each vehicle has been specially customized for photographers and had multi-plug inverters and photographic bars. In addition, each guest tent comes equipped with a pair of Swarovski binoculars, a professional Canon camera set, including a Canon 7D camera body and Canon 100-400mm and 24-70mm lenses and photographic tuition is available on request. The camp’s guides are renowned for their knowledge and enthusiasm about the reserve’s wildlife, environment and the Masai culture. During your stay you can join day and night game drives, walking safaris, meet local Masai communities and hot air balloon trips (this must be booked in advance and is at an extra cost). DENIS ISLAND Denis Island is an idyllic, exclusive desert island situated 95 kilometers north of Mahé Island in the Seychelles. A 350 acre coral island, it sits at the edge of the Seychelles Bank that drops 2000 ft. into the depths of the Indian Ocean. The island is almost completely encircled by coral reefs abundant in sea life, leading on to a natural lagoon and vast dazzling white sandy beaches. It is an incredibly romantic barefoot destination ideal for couples and honeymooners. Accommodation & Facilities Situated on the northwestern tip of Denis Island, this resort lies on the beach and is enclosed by mature casuarina trees and coconut palms. The resort comprises 25 large private chalets sensitively decorated using natural materials. All have en-suite facilities and ocean facing terraces. The communal areas include a restaurant with an excellent international and local menu, a well-stocked bar, and spacious seating space. You are free to make full use of the resort library, shop and media room with internet access. Activities During your stay at Denis Island you can be as laid back or energetic as you like. Simply unwind and soak up the sun on the beach, head into the beautiful azure water and snorkel around the reef, enjoy a game of tennis, canoe or take a deep sea fishing trip. If you want to explore the ocean further, Denis Island has a small, professional and fully equipped dive center.
