LBW Cares:

Ethical Travel

We are leading a movement towards ethical treatments of elephants. Riding elephants continues to be an unethical practice due to the use of heavy metal saddles, ropes, sharp hooks and torture tactics to discipline the incredibly intelligent animals. Upon extensive research and consideration, we made an executive decision to remove visits to elephant trekking camps, replacing them with trips to ethical elephant sanctuaries where we can positively impact the lives of these animals. We are the first company in North America to completely remove visits to elephant trekking camps and we hope that other follow in our footsteps.

The wild Asian elephant is a fully protected Endangered Species. Thailand's tourism industry employs over 2,000 elephants and some experts put the total number of wild elephants in Thailand below 1,000. Over the years, Thailand and surrounding countries has seen a rapid decline in the Asian elephant population and tourism continues to fuel this decline.

We understand the importance of having a positive impact on this world and continue to do everything we can do to improve the unique experiences we offer our travellers and the wellbeing of the communities we travel to.

The Blue Project

We love the ocean and the diverse habitat it offers us to explore. It's time to do our best to keep it a healthy home for millions of species. We've decided to put a focus on minimizing our environmental impact, and we've started with our Thailand tours. There are now 46,000 pieces of plastic per square km in the world's oceans, killing one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals each year. The average traveller on our tour goes through three bottles of water per day. Without proper recycling programs many of these bottles contribute to that pollution. We'll be placing refillable water coolers at each place we visit on our Thailand tours and we'll provide each traveller with a reusable LBW Travel water bottle at the beginning of the trip. This effort alone will keep over 80,000 bottles per year out of the ocean and landfills. You'll save money and we'll all do our part to save the environment!
