What's this trip about?

These extended circumnavigations – which include the rarely visited northern islands and picturesque straits of the Svalbard Archipelago – provide the Sea Spirit and its guests more time to seek out Ursus maritimus in its natural habitat. On this in-depth Arctic wildlife cruise, we’ll also venture to the jumbled, ever-shifting southern edge of the polar ice cap. Here, at the dynamic boundary between implacable ice and bountiful sea, we’ll search for polar bears stalking their prey. Whether it’s of a calving iceberg along the jagged, mountainous coastline or the otherworldly hush of a land where man is an infrequent visitor, your memories of this Svalbard expedition cruise will last a lifetime. Poseidon Expeditions specializes in polar cruising in icy, remote regions of the world. Our goal is to take you to places few people will ever see and provide you with a unique perspective on the majestic beauty and wildlife of the region — all while you enjoy personalized service in comfortable accommodations. Our experienced expedition team – the curators for your voyage – takes great pleasure in ensuring that your Arctic trip exceeds all expectations.

View Profile

Poseidon Expeditions was founded in 1999 as an operator of icebreaker expedition cruises to the North Pole. Having had no rival in this special niche of the world travel market, our company became recognized experts in North Pole icebreaker cruising.

Our first voyage to the North Pole was operated aboard the nuclear powered icebreaker Yamal, the only ship at that time that could provide safe and comfortable navigation to the "top of the world". Two years later, new destinations and another icebreaker were introduced to the world travel market – the Franz Josef Land Archipelago Voyage and Transpolar Bridge Voyage aboard the icebreaker Kapitan Dranitsyn. These territories, known as "the Russian Arctic", had been closed to travelers due to political and governmental reasons. It was only at the end of the 20th century that travelers finally got a chance to appreciate the beauty of the Russian Arctic.

With the world becoming smaller, human aspirations to visit remote and hard–to–reach destinations is increasing. Now we are proud to be one of the world leaders in polar expedition cruising with both Arctic and Antarctic regions among our destinations and to be one of the world leaders in polar expedition cruising. Poseidon Expeditions has offices in the UK, USA, Russia, China, Japan and Europe, enhancing a global network of travel professionals.

Why we love this operator
Their ice-breaking cruise liners take travelers truly off of the beaten path and into the very heart of the polar realms.
What they’re known for
Providing the perfect combination of comfort, personal service, and outdoor adventure in the Arctic and Antarctica.

Ship & cabin information
MV Sea Spirit
Like some of the birds we see in the Arctic and Antarctica, our m/v Sea Spirit is migratory and follows the sun, northbound in the summer and southbound in the winter, always ready for spontaneous discoveries — a pod of whales, a family of polar bears or a glaciated mountain vista. She is highly maneuverable and capable of navigating the narrow fjords of East Greenland and entering the small bays of Spitsbergen. In 2017, she was renovated to offer a unique mixture of adventure and comfort for our sophisticated travelers. Onboard, we create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all our guests. They are united by one goal — to have a memorable wilderness experience and to become real polar adventurers. We believe that first-hand travel to such places makes one an ambassador for conservation, and helps strengthen our resolve to protect these natural environments for future generations.
