What's this trip about?

Mighty glaciers crumble, Viking settlements lie in ruins, and Inuit culture flourishes on Greenland’s west coast. This exceptional voyage departs from Reykjavík, Iceland and finishes in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland (or goes the other way around). Our explorations span the countless fjords of Greenland’s west coast from Cape Farewell, at the southern tip of the country, to Disko Bay, deep inside the Arctic Circle. Inside Greenland’s southern fjords we discover well-preserved Viking ruins and the country’s most fertile landscapes. Along Greenland’s west coast we find colorful Inuit villages, as well as the capital city of Nuuk. In Disko Bay we find spectacular natural wonders including the famous Ilulissat Icefjord.

Enjoy a few restful days at sea, as we get ready for icebergs, Inuit villages, whales and much more! View Profile

Poseidon Expeditions was founded in 1999 as an operator of icebreaker expedition cruises to the North Pole. Having had no rival in this special niche of the world travel market, our company became recognized experts in North Pole icebreaker cruising.

Our first voyage to the North Pole was operated aboard the nuclear powered icebreaker Yamal, the only ship at that time that could provide safe and comfortable navigation to the "top of the world". Two years later, new destinations and another icebreaker were introduced to the world travel market – the Franz Josef Land Archipelago Voyage and Transpolar Bridge Voyage aboard the icebreaker Kapitan Dranitsyn. These territories, known as "the Russian Arctic", had been closed to travelers due to political and governmental reasons. It was only at the end of the 20th century that travelers finally got a chance to appreciate the beauty of the Russian Arctic.

With the world becoming smaller, human aspirations to visit remote and hard–to–reach destinations is increasing. Now we are proud to be one of the world leaders in polar expedition cruising with both Arctic and Antarctic regions among our destinations and to be one of the world leaders in polar expedition cruising. Poseidon Expeditions has offices in the UK, USA, Russia, China, Japan and Europe, enhancing a global network of travel professionals.

Why we love this operator
Their ice-breaking cruise liners take travelers truly off of the beaten path and into the very heart of the polar realms.
What they’re known for
Providing the perfect combination of comfort, personal service, and outdoor adventure in the Arctic and Antarctica.

Ship & cabin information
MV Sea Spirit
Like some of the birds we see in the Arctic and Antarctica, our m/v Sea Spirit is migratory and follows the sun, northbound in the summer and southbound in the winter, always ready for spontaneous discoveries — a pod of whales, a family of polar bears or a glaciated mountain vista. She is highly maneuverable and capable of navigating the narrow fjords of East Greenland and entering the small bays of Spitsbergen. In 2017, she was renovated to offer a unique mixture of adventure and comfort for our sophisticated travelers. Onboard, we create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all our guests. They are united by one goal — to have a memorable wilderness experience and to become real polar adventurers. We believe that first-hand travel to such places makes one an ambassador for conservation, and helps strengthen our resolve to protect these natural environments for future generations.
